FOR ALL YOUR ENGINEERING NEEDS

Mechanical Electrical Plumbing and Process Piping Project Management

Budlong & Associates, Inc. (B&A) is a multi-discipline engineering design firm. The firm provides mechanical,  electrical and plumbing engineering services (MEP) to architectural firms as well as acting as the prime and project manager for various industrial facility projects. Founded in 1958, B&A has served facilities, industrial  and private sector clients in and around the Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara County areas. Four and a half decades of demonstrated ability and a talent for meeting the special needs of  the industrial, educational and institutional client have earned for B&A an enviable reputation for engineering excellence.

Projects of every size and description have been completed by B&A in the last forty-six years. B&A’s voluminous list of projects includes designs for both new construction as well as renovation and modifications to existing facilities. Many B&A projects have involved renovations of, or additions to, existing facilities and B&A engineers understand the unique requirements inherent to the renovation, upgrade and expansion of existing facilities.

 Firm Size, Location and Capacity

Budlong & Associates, Inc. is located in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Currently, there are two fully staffed and equipped locations that cohesively work as one office. The Camarillo office is the corporate headquarters and houses the majority of the mechanical engineering staff. Our Glendale office produces primarily electrical design, specializing in power generation, transmission and distribution, lighting, and industrial processes and facilities.

Although many of B&A’s design projects can be measured in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, the firm is also organized so as to be able to efficiently handle small design tasks. In addition, our production capacity, quality control standards and efficiency are greatly enhanced by our extensive use of Computer-Aided Design and Drafting among various platforms. All three offices are equipped with up-to-date technologies including state-of the-art computers, office networking, high speed color plotters, CD Writers, digital cameras, DSL Internet, along with the latest software including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.  Specifications are prepared using the client’s standard or industry standard specifications.

Project Approach

The adaptation of new technology into existing facilities applies a coordinated project team approach, including all technical disciplines with both client and consultant.

Within the B&A team, the Project Manager takes the lead in exploring the planning of decisions, both within the design team and with the user or facility staff. The Project Manager - having obtained a good understanding of the use of requirements from the client - organizes frequent internal communication within the design team. Key personnel from all the disciplines are brought into the project at an early stage and this involvement is maintained throughout the design process. With proven success on our design process flow, challenges in designing are discovered early in the process rather than at the final stages.

This methodology, coupled with close contact with client planning and facilities management personnel, typically has resulted in close adherence to project functional requirements, schedule and budget constraints. Ultimately, it is the group (both project team and client) that leads to overall successful completion of these projects. The close relationship which has typically developed between our coordinating personnel and the clients’ organizational contact becomes a model we strive to attain in all our work.
